FML: Lilypads and ripples – The Hidden Thimble

FML: Lilypads and ripples

The Ripple effect

Drop a pebble in the water: in a minute you forget,
But there’s little waves a-flowing,
and there’s ripples circling yet,
And those little waves a-flowing
to a great big wave have grown;
You’ve disturbed a mighty river
just by dropping in a stone.

I once knew someone who told me that my recycling efforts (I’m an avid recycler haha) were in vain and that one person couldn’t make a difference.  Being the optimist I am, I greatly disagreed.

If I were the only person in the world that recycled, I would still make a difference in terms of my personal contribution.  Would I solve the problem? No, but I would impact it.  Even if it were ever so slightly.

I would go so far as to say that the idea of ‘one person being able to make a difference’ is a concept that is designed to work collectively.  If everyone in the world thought they could make a difference on a particular problem, everyone’s combined contribution would make a significant impact and could even fix the problem.

So, if you believe in something, then take action!  Your little ripple could end up disturbing a mighty river!

Side note: This was the first shoot that my boyfriend helped me out with and he did a pretty good job don’t you agree??  I feel like this is the first relatively casual look I’ve done in a long time.  I absolutely love the floral design on this top – it reminds me of a giant lotus flower which is very fitting to the location.

How about you? Do you think ONe person can make a difference?

Thank you so much Patricia! That’s so lovely of you to say. Have a wonderful day too!

I think that, regardless, one person needs to try.

There’s a wonderful bit in Robert Bolt’s play “A Man for All Seasons” where the protagonist advises his protege to forget about high office and glory and be a teacher, that he’d be a good teacher, maybe a great one. But who would KNOW? moans the protege. More replies: “You. Your students. God. Not a bad public, that.”

So IMO it doesn’t matter how “big” an impact one person has; it’s incumbent on that person to do her, or his, very best.

Your Sun Prince did a terrific job, Dark Lady, and I, too, love that flowery top…but the whole outfit works together perfectly; neat but not dressy, comfortable but stylish. This is just a beautiful shoot. Where is this little secret water-garden..?

100% in agreement with you chief! One must try there very best!
Haha he did didn’t he? I was exceptionally happy with how well he did! This little retreat is hidden inside “Yarralen Retreat” in a place called “Yarrahapinni” me and the sun prince went there to celebrate our anniversary haha :)
