FML: Taste of Summer

What is better than a summer’s day?

Patient and colourless, though Heaven’s gold

Waits to float through them along with the sun.

The uneasy wind rises; the roses are dun;

Through the long twilight they pray for the dawn,

Round the lone house in the midst of the corn,

Speak but one word to me over the corn,

Over the tender, bow’d locks of the corn.

– Abstracts from ‘Summer Dawn’  by William Morris

If there is one thing that screams “summer” it’s the taste of a refreshing cold ice cream that chases away the day’s simmering heat. Though I’ve tasted some unique flavours from cherry blossom to whitebait fish, the best thing is to head up north to Hokkaido where the cows roam free producing the best dairy products in Japan.

It’s one of my goals to travel to both ends of Japan and Sapporo’s natural beauty and refreshing cool summer breeze is the perfect get away from the sticky heat of Tokyo. If I could recommend a place, Shiroi Koibito Park (yes, that famous white chocolate biscuit’s factory is also a fun park) has beautiful rose gardens set in a European style mini village that’s great for photos and a relaxing day out. It’s like I’ve died and gone to dessert heaven!

What’s your favourite ice cream flavour?

Until Next Time!

FML: Moonlight Stories

Tell me A story

“Tell me the story
about how the moon loved the sun so much…

…that she died every night, just to let him breathe”

A twist on Hanako Ishii’s quote

She was the type to fall in love with the sun and everything that was beautifully unreachable.  She’s not bubbly like the sun, for life has brought too much sorrow.  A sensitive soul that experienced too much before it was ready,  her smile no longer reaches her eyes.

“Can you truly smile again after such sadness?” she asks, “can you light up the day like the sun?”

Headband: Kmart | Dress: IXIAH | Shoes: Aldo

I’m not a bubbly person.  I am complex, deep and sometimes withdrawn and because of this, I wouldn’t say I could be described as bubbly all the time.  Yes, I feel happiness, excitement and all those feelings, but overall I am more melancholic.

I think everyone feels these kind of insecurities every so often and as corny as it sounds, you just have to accept being you and focus on the positive things you can bring to someone’s life.  So instead of shining like the sun for everyone, I muster up whatever light I have and shine like the moon for the special people in my life, quietly in the background to light up their darkest hours.

And hopefully that is enough.

How do you confront your insecurities?

Winter Things: Accessories Look Book

Here, I’m focusing on some jewelry pieces I picked up recently and pieces I forgot at home in Sydney that I haven’t worn out and creating some go-to coordinate outfits for each.

Rosy Gold

I’m really enjoying rose gold tones and thought it would be nice to pair it with something casual to make it look sports lux with these cute overalls and fitted cropped top… and this oversized nude toned coat because it is cold AF here.

Boundless

From the mastermind of Vanessa Hong’s blog, The Haute Pursuit, these cuff from THPSHOP are chunky but will never weigh you down. This is my first purchase from a fashion blogger turned fashion entrepreneur venture and I really like the sleek and unique design of their jewelry range.  Though I don’t really have many sharp chic clothes, this all black pairing works well I feel.

Harness Play

Remember how body harnesses were like “a thing” back circa 2013? They made a few cameos last year during the Louis Vuitton Fall runway and have taunted my need to find one which was a fine play of trying to look daringly fashionably interesting and tasteful.

Though I’ve seen some pieces while online hunting, quality, and good design were always key and I found that the ones from designer Elif Domanic were great because they were designed within mind to be wearable for daily situations as well.

Until Next Time!

International Woolmark Prize and A/W 2016/17 Winter Wool Trends

International Woolmark PrizeInternational Woolmark PrizeInternational Woolmark Prize

This week I had the pleasure of attending the regional final of the international Woolmark prize for Australia and New Zealand. For those who don’t know, this prize celebrates outstanding fashion talents from around the globe in a competition that challenges participants to test the boundaries of merino wool.

Of the talent present on the night, Australian labels Exinfinitas and macgraw took out the competition with their unique, innovative and forward thinking designs. Macgraw stole the show with a two-piece look that showcased a soft pink overcoat with hand embroidered merino wool flowers. Inspired by the Flannel Flower native to Sydney, the piece embodied the soft woolly feel of the flower.

From luxury fashion to contemporary street wear, merino wool is soft on the skin and provides superior drape that follows the form of the wearer’s body – making it an ideal, trendy and not to mention warm must-have for winter. But if you’re not too sure where to start on the next wool piece for your closet, don’t worry! The Woolmark Company puts together a seasonal guide that curates the most inspirational emerging wool trends known as ‘The Wool Lab’.  This year, The Wool Lab has identified 7 themes for 2016/17 Autumn/Winter that are inline with the latest fashion trends.

Here’s the scoop on two of my favourites below:

Aquarius

I love how magical this shoot turned out!  I got this maxi dress from a cute little pop up store in Bondi called The Cherry Shop.  I absolutely love the details on this dress especially the little shell-like buttons that line down the center and diverge into the split.

The shoes perfectly match this dress and I love how much detail has gone into these sandals.  There are so many different textures and materials used, yet the shoes still remain relatively simple looking.  If you’re interested, these little numbers were from Aldo.

See below for detail shots!

Gypsy Magic

I’ve always been a boho fan, but gypsy vibes are a new thing I’m loving.  I can’t help but want to be a magical, luna, gypsy, beach goddess alright!

I don’t know if you have noticed,  but lately we’ve been kinda obsessed with Instagram. And thankfully so, because I happened to stumble across Lady Luna, an online fashion store based in Sydney with some serious boho and gypsy vibes.

One thing that always crosses my mind when I stumble across a store on social media is one question; “if I buy from this store, what kind of quality clothing am I going to receive?”  I’ve bought from a few online stores widely advertised on social media and have been somewhat disappointed with my purchase.  All too often the pieces are made from cheap materials, messy sewing and/or an awkward fit – you know the drill.

You can rest assured with Lady Luna.  The material for this dress in particular is delicate, non-itchy – in fact it feels really luxurious and soft, of a high quality and well sewn.  On top of that, the dress is well lined over the important areas (bust and skirt), which is especially great because there’s nothing worse than buying a see-through dress and having to find the perfect bra and slip to wear underneath it.  Being able to throw this on with no worries is definitely a big bonus!

The only negative with me was with the make of this dress. I found I couldn’t lift my arms up too high past my shoulders without threatening to tear the dress. Not too sure if this was an error on my behalf and reading sizing guides wrong.  Regardless I love this dress to bits, so this small negative really doesn’t stop be from wearing it.

A shout out to Wanderlust  + Co, my new obsession for magical gypsy jewellery.  Can’t wait to add more rings to my collection.  Oh, and if you’re always worried about rings never fitting your finger (like me) , Wanderlust’s rings come in different sizes.  Sizes are super accurate as well, so you’re always  bound to find a ring that fits!
