FML: Space Princess

Hey everyone,

I’m here to inspire you with my grunge side.  That’s right, sometimes I also like to dress a bit edgy…and lumpeehhh.

Ever since I laid eyes on Lumpy Space Princess, there has been a connection that we both just can’t deny.  So when I saw these tights on BlackMilk I HAD to get them!!  It’s so sad BlackMilk doesn’t stock these collections anymore…but I just noticed a Disney and Nightmare Before Christmas Collection….

…..

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

Shoes: Rubi Shoes  |  Tights: BlackMilk  |  Jumper: Dotti   |  Beanie: Lazy Oaf

I can’t help but love BlackMilk, they are just all-round amazing – their brand marketing for one is just A-star, I mean trust me, just sign up to BlackMilk, the opening email you get is fantastic.  I love that stuff.

But not only that they have the cooolest, the cooolest range of tights ever.

If you had a childhood like mine, watching Saturday Disney, Cheez TV, Agro, and was an internet savvy pre-teen, a prerequisite of which was to love anime, (and I bet you found your community online ayyye ayyye? YOU HAVE A LIVEJOURNAL DON’T YOU!  *cough* I only know coz I had one too…animated avatars FTW!), these tights bring you back to that. Love Jack Skellington? Wear him on your legs. Disney Villains? My homegirl ursula and I are skin tight close. Literally. These tights bring you back to your childhood with a mature grunge.

Not only that, Black Milk tights are comfortable, durable, really great quality and cling in all the right places.  I’ve had mine for about a year and they haven’t faded, stretched or ripped at the seams.  The only negative I have found is that they are slightly, SLIGHTLY see through around the underwear area – so wear something nude coloured underneath.  However I think this is because I have pretty wide hips for my otherwise petite body so I may be stretching the fabric too far.

Nevertheless, the love I feel definitely makes these leggings worth the price.  They are a bit pricey…but trust. Tis worth it.

And before I leave I want to give a quick shout out to my Siree’s beanie from Lazy Oaf.  I usually don’t suit beanies because I think they bring into focus how small my head/face actually is, however me and Lazy Oaf seem to get along fine!

Wish – Wait For Sunrise Winter Collection ’14

Winter is coming.

Okay we know this isn’t Game of Thrones, but we couldn’t resist!

But it’s true, autumn is upon us and the signs are already showing – today it was dark by 7PM! Farewell long summer days…

However, as summer slowly dwindles away, it really only means it’s time for one thing! Updating your Autumn/Winter wardrobe! Here’s where WISH’s ‘Wait for Sunrise’ 2014 Winter Collection comes in.

WISH has this winter sorted with the perfect collection of edgy, urban and feminine creations. WISH’s winter collection traditionally plays among the familiar sepia and blue based undertones of winter, but with a twist – capturing an autumn sunrise with shades of vibrant reds, blush pinks and pops of magenta.

We’re loving the clean, modern sophistication of this collection and with its geometric patterns, delicate lace and florals, it’s both feminine and elegant. Experimentation with different textures and materials gives WISH’s collection that extra dimension.

So, where’s the oversized coats and the layers of thick-whatever-keeps-you-warm we hear you say? Pfft this is the Australian Winter fool! We brave the 16-degree chill while getting a tan – cause that’s how we do! Pairing a flowy dress with a fitted jacket? Or a lace long sleeve with leather shorts? Check! This juxtaposed look for the season keeps things fresh and Wish has a range of dresses even for the Winter time. Look at the geometric print dress in the promo! Can’t you see yourself strutting in that enjoying the winter nightlife? We do!

Layering heavy fabrics such as knit over lace and mesh textures, makes for a lighter winter silhouette – say goodbye to that winter bulky feel.  These paired with cut out knit details and embossed fabric embellishments makes your winter wardrobe fun!  After all, mixing and matching different elements together = MAXIMUM STYLE COMBINATIONS!!!!

Worried about transitioning between the seasons this Autumn? We know we always are. It’s difficult to find something to wear that isn’t too hot and isn’t too cool. Wish understands. This collection covers all bases by pairing singlet tops with patterned trousers, long sleeved tops with shorts and stylish jackets over your short-sleeved evening dresses. WISH achieves a perfect balancing act to keep you comfy this Autumn and keep you warmer as winter unfolds.

The Week in Photos – and our first Blogshop!

Siree here!

Wow I’m finally back from travels (but that’s for another post sorray!)

We had our first blog shop exactly a week ago and it was great success with some pleasant surprises.  Here’s what you missed!

Tadah our store set-up. We got a bit high tech with the iPad for the Etude House and Skinfood cosmetics we had on display. It’s all in the details :)

Our variety of “ViVi” inspired vintage items got people curious which was wonderful! Personally, I feel our love for this style is still new and niche for a majority of people but we hope to spread the love around the Sydney scene more! Thanks to Little Treasures Market and Margaret from le petite mademoiselle for having us and to Blackflower Patisserie for all the macarons on the day! Not to mention everyone who came to visit (and to Shu for hanging out with us!) :)

My favourite piece from the stuff I got was this two-piece matchy set. So cute for that summer-by-the-pool kind of vibe. No doubt the person who bought it also thought it was adorbs!

The weather in Sydney has been pretty shiot lately I must say. Cold, rainy than a hint of sun just to tease us blah! But I capped off the busy week with some festive Thanksgiving dinner at Neutral Bay with the home sick office folk!

Couldn’t get past all the pumpkin hype! Got some pumpkin ale from Seattle to wash everything down.

The menu includes honey glazed ham, prime rib and oven-roasted turkey, cornbread, stuffing, *gasps for air* green beans, candied yams, sweet potato pie, succotash and mash potatoes. Absolutely yummo! Dessert was pecan, apple and pumpkin pie! Would’ve liked it more if there was the whole pie and not a tasting plate because family style all the way!

If you came to our blogshop let us know what you thought! We might have another one so stay tuned and make sure you follow us on facebook and instagram!

 Until next time!

Turning 1!

Aloha!

Siree here. Just five days ago this little blog turned 1 and we can certainly say with unabashed pride we are growing up!

From the beginning to now we’ve gone through many stages of writing, diligent diary syncing, eating, more eating (for science!), procrastinating and idea brainstorming to finally being able to share this space with you. Seriously, whenever we look back we wished we started this idea for a blog sooner. Seeing all these young blood blogging during their uni day makes us envious about what we could have fit into our uni day beside our usual dinner/club activities/uni social event gathering/karaoke after school sessions. Though it would be interesting to show what we did get up to after study was over ahaha (we’ll never tell!).

But we’ve achieved a lot since starting and thank you for staying around, reading and commenting it means a lot to us!

And so, remember here where I said that The Hidden Thimble was gonna have something special happening for the month of October? Well here it is:

Yes! We are going to have our first pop up store to celebrate our first birthday full of lovely trinkets as I travel to the trend cities of Tokyo and Seoul!

I’ll be sourcing not only clothes but also cosmetics and there’ll be some yummy macaroons and home made treats for the store as well!

The blog store will be happening sometime in November so keep up to date on our Facebook on location and details!

Thank you for putting up with our narcissistic selfies, Siree’s questionable spelling, random rants

and just lonnnnng procrastinating periods.

It’s something we can’t seem to shake from our self improvement list.

Until next time.

FML: This Shirt Has Cats!

If you don’t know who this little kitty is, well I’m gonna educate you on the awesomeness of this shirt because… it has freakin Chococat on it! Choco-freakn-cat!!

Yeah, possibly the cutest thing to have on a blouse. I got this Forever21 baby from my great friend as a Christmas present when she was overseas. She was still thinking of me when she was visiting long time friends, how sweet! So I’ll call her “Beloved M” here. She looks after me and my fashion endeavors, heart her long time~.

Rings – HOH | ASOS | Lovisa

Cuteness overload! This is from the HELLO KITTY FOREVER, FOREVER 21 X SANRIO Collection 2012. The items were really cute! I love the way they styled the pattern-on-pattern graphics for the photo shoot in the collection. It doesn’t look “kiddish.” The looks they portrayed were fresh and youthful for the pleasure of street style.  So unique! I wish Australia had F21 so I could buy more pieces :(

Cute right?! Click on the image to see more photos!
Pleather Skater Skirt – ASOS | Blouse – F21 | Shoes – hand me down

So I guess my take is more of a toned down version aww :(  To toughen the look, I paired the blouse with my pleather skirt which gave it a nice contrast. The skirt is the wet-look kind of pleather skater skirts available which I love because it’s so sleek.

Cute oxford-esque heels in cream and brown to match. These types of shoe designs were popular in Japan once upon a time… still is for some brands like Liz Lisa :)

The forced “I’m-not-looking-at-you-to-look-natural-but-it’s-all-lies” look to finish LOL :P

FML – Floral BDGeans

First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!! Talyssa and I wish you all the best and thank you for supporting us with all your lovely comments, following and visits! 2012 has certainly gone fast hasn’t it? It definitely has been an accelerated learning curb for us with our blog and we predict 2013 is gonna be the year for more fun and games here at The Hidden Thimble for sure!

And starting off for 1st Jan ’13, we are back for another flower power hit!

Ah, you’re probably going, “Huhhh??” A bit surprised it’s not a New Year’s Eve party edition right? Well, NYE was a bit low key this year for us. We just went out to a friend’s place and partied with eating, gaming and singing then went to watch the fireworks at 12AM. So yeah, fashion-wise we weren’t in the mood lol

This look is a bit more for your casual day out though, with the location setting it seems to really fit into the country theme lol. It must be the hat! I don’t think I really see people wear hats in the city except for guys with caps. Actually I don’t really wear hats! Especially of this size! But I think it looks great when you pair it with a maxi dress for the summer.

Talyssa keeps on commenting how Japanese I looked with my hat and wig. Actually, there is something Gyaru about this look. My mission is complete lol

Blouse: Zara. Jeans: BDG. Hat: ThreadSence. Necklace: House of Harlow. Boots: Overseas (Korea).

Ahh these BDG jeans are love! I got them online at Urban Outfitters and they are just the perfect shade in colour. Oooh secret! I only started wearing jeans again this year after a veryyy long hiatus. Long as in maybe 2 years+(?) Yeah, it’s been a while since I covered my legs (hahz!) It’s such a pain to alter something you already paid for and seeing all that fabric go in the bin is heartbreaking (for my ego…).

Ah Nicole if you are reading this (which I doubt *sad*), you own my soul with your amazing jewelry!  These are from her first season range. Still classics. ;)

OK that’s it!
